Christmas Day Releases 2015

It's the most wonderful time of the year -- award winning releases. December wraps up the year with some of the best releases in cinema. This Christmas take a look at some potential Academy Award, Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild nominees.   

"Joy"

Directed by David O. Russell. Starring Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper and Robert De Niro. Potential nominee for Best Picture.

Director David O. Russell takes on the true story of entrepreneur Joy Mangano. The film shows the life of a divorced mother of two who builds her life through four generations by inventing the Miracle Mop. The film received a Golden Globe nomination for Best Motion Picture, and JLaw received a Globe nomination for best actress.

"THE BIG SHORT"

Directed by Adam McKay. Starring Steve Carrell, Ryan Gosling, Christian Bale and Brad Pitt.  

The film is based on the book, "The Big Short: Inside the Doomsday Machine" by Michael Lewis, and exposes how four powerful men's action on Wall Street led to the financial crisis of 2008. Potential nominations include four Golden Globes, including Best Motion Picture, and several SAG nominations for the actors. We can expect to see an Oscar nom with this flick. 

"Concussion"

Directed by Peter Landesman. Starring Will Smith, Alec Baldwin, Cyril Wecht, Luke Wilson and Eddie Marsan.

A true story of neuropathologist Bennet Omalu who discovers the football related injury CTE, and his journey of trying to bring awareness to the dominated industry.  Will Smith received a Globe nomination for his role.

The Hateful Eight: Western.

Directed by Quentin Tarantino. Starring Kurt Russell, Walton Goggins, Samuel L. Jackson and Jennifer Jason Leigh. Potential nominee for Best Picture.

Set after the Civil War, bounty hunter John Ruth and his fugitive Daisy Domergue obstacle across the wintery landscape of Wyoming in order to find justice in the town of Red Rock. They come across new and unfamiliar faces through out their quest and are faced with the unsettling thought of never making it to their destination by harsh climate situations. "The Hateful Eight" has scored three Globe nominations and several SAG. Oscar worthy nom for this film as well.
